<br />
<div style="text-align: justify;">
In this spring the garden has found its new masters, who want to carry on what we started seventeen years ago.</div>
<br />
<a href="http://www.studiolum.com/hortus/kertinaplo/img/kert1.jpg"><img alt="" border="0" src="http://www.studiolum.com/hortus/kertinaplo/img/kert1k.jpg" style="display: block; margin: 0px auto 0px; text-align: center;" /></a><br />
I started this blog on the garden six years ago, <a href="http://agardendiary.blogspot.com/2007/03/fruit-grafting-lady-day.html">on the feast of Fruit-Grafting Lady,</a> dedicated to the Virgin Mary. In the gospel lecture of that day the angel promises the eternal throne of David to the child to be born from Mary. Today the same gospel is read, because in this day the Church celebrates Mary as the queen of this kingdom. I think this feast is a good occasion to close this blog and to say thanks.<br />
<br />
<a href="http://www.studiolum.com/hortus/kertinaplo/img/kert2.jpg"><img alt="" border="0" src="http://www.studiolum.com/hortus/kertinaplo/img/kert2k.jpg" style="display: block; margin: 0px auto 0px; text-align: center;" /></a><br />
I say thank to all the Readers for your interest, the confirmations and support. Thanks to all who stood by us in the difficult time when we sold the garden, who encouraged and comforted us, shared our ad, and especially to those who prayed for us.<br />
<br />
<a href="http://www.studiolum.com/hortus/kertinaplo/img/kert3.jpg"><img alt="" border="0" src="http://www.studiolum.com/hortus/kertinaplo/img/kert3k.jpg" style="display: block; margin: 0px auto 0px; text-align: center;" /></a><br />
I thank for the intercession of Mary. And I thank to God for this garden, for all the joy and pain we have lived here, and above all, that always, both in our joy and in our pain, we always experienced His loving presence.<br />
<br />
<a href="http://www.studiolum.com/hortus/kertinaplo/img/kert4.jpg"><img alt="" border="0" src="http://www.studiolum.com/hortus/kertinaplo/img/kert4k.jpg" style="display: block; margin: 0px auto 0px; text-align: center;" /></a></div>
Unknownnoreply@blogger.com1tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1730833146696023180.post-87649438499893127812012-12-17T20:17:00.002+01:002013-01-20T14:20:30.617+01:00This garden is for sale<div style="text-align: justify;">
A few weeks ago a friend of mine wrote in relation to the garden, that she is envious of me for my knowledge and experience. I really liked her approach, because it was in fact one of the greatest gifts in my life that I could create this garden, that step-by-step, on nearly 2,400 square meters, I could achieve in Hungary something which fifteen years ago only existed in some books imported from Britain.<br />
<br />
<a href="http://www.studiolum.com/hortus/kertinaplo/2012-12-17-kert/01.jpg" onblur="try {parent.deselectBloggerImageGracefully();} catch(e) {}"><img alt="" border="0" src="http://www.studiolum.com/hortus/kertinaplo/2012-12-17-kert/01c.jpg" style="display: block; margin: 0px auto 0px; text-align: center;" /></a><br />
It seems that my way is like when something is done, I need to move ahead. Our life has had a turn where we have to sell this garden (with <a href="http://riowang.blogspot.hu/2011/10/sunday-morning.html">the house connected with it</a>). However, I want it to come in good hands, if we could pass it to people who would take care of it with the same love and would find at least as much fun in it as we did.<br />
<br />
<a href="http://www.studiolum.com/hortus/kertinaplo/2012-12-17-kert/02.jpg" onblur="try {parent.deselectBloggerImageGracefully();} catch(e) {}"><img alt="" border="0" src="http://www.studiolum.com/hortus/kertinaplo/2012-12-17-kert/02c.jpg" style="display: block; margin: 0px auto 0px; text-align: center;" /></a><br />
I want to ask you, dear Readers, who have shared our joys for so many years, and from whom we received so much support: look at our <b><a href="http://realestatehungary.hu/20001004">advertisement</a>,</b> and help to find us the new owner of the garden. Perhaps some of you will think you could be it… But I also ask everyone else to spread our advertisement, put it on Facebook, send it on community lists, and ask your friends and acquaintances to do the same. Perhaps it will be an acquaintance of an acquaintance to carry on this garden. Thank you very much to all. Kata</div>

Three years ago I started experimenting with planting on the street, in front of the early summer-blooming old rose bed some drought-tolerant perennials flowering in late summer and autumn.</div>
<br />
<a href="http://www.studiolum.com/hortus/kertinaplo/2012-09-25-kert/01.jpg" onblur="try {parent.deselectBloggerImageGracefully();} catch(e) {}"><img alt="" border="0" src="http://www.studiolum.com/hortus/kertinaplo/2012-09-25-kert/01c.jpg" style="display: block; margin: 0px auto 0px; text-align: center;" /></a><br />
<div style="text-align: justify;">
I think the experiment was successful. In this year’s extreme heat and drought this bed got absolutely no watering, and yet its plants not only live, but are beautiful, proving to be drought-tolerant not only in the books, but also in the reality.</div>
<br />
<a href="http://www.studiolum.com/hortus/kertinaplo/2012-09-25-kert/02.jpg" onblur="try {parent.deselectBloggerImageGracefully();} catch(e) {}"><img alt="" border="0" src="http://www.studiolum.com/hortus/kertinaplo/2012-09-25-kert/02c.jpg" style="display: block; margin: 0px auto 0px; text-align: center;" /></a><br />
<div style="text-align: justify;">
The first one is the plant in the left lower corner of the picture, <a href="http://www.northcreeknurseries.com/index.cfm/fuseaction/plants.plantDetail/plant_id/32/index.htm">Aster oblongifolius (syn. Symphyotrichum oblongifolium) 'October Skies'</a>. At us it starts to bloom in late August, early September, and in contrast to most description, it does not require full sun, but also blooms beautifully in part-shade.</div>
<br />
<a href="http://www.studiolum.com/hortus/kertinaplo/2012-09-25-kert/03.jpg" onblur="try {parent.deselectBloggerImageGracefully();} catch(e) {}"><img alt="" border="0" src="http://www.studiolum.com/hortus/kertinaplo/2012-09-25-kert/03c.jpg" style="display: block; margin: 0px auto 0px; text-align: center;" /></a><br />
<div style="text-align: justify;">
The grass next to the Aster in the first picture is in the left upper corner in this photo: <a href="http://www.esveld.nl/htmldiaen/p/pavsqu.htm">Panicum virgatum 'Squaw'</a>. Now it is at the beginning of its autumn coloration, later it will take on beautiful red tones. In the middle, a yellow flower: <a href="http://davesgarden.com/guides/pf/go/1154/">Solidago canadensis</a>. It came here by itself. I like it very much, but it is so aggressive that I do not dare to put it in the garden. Here, in the street, above dry building rubble, however, it works perfectly. In the right lower corner of the image, a <a href="http://davesgarden.com/guides/pf/go/733/">Perovskia atriplicifolia</a> (at us it is usually much larger than what Dave’s Garden writes, at least one to one and a half meters high and large). It is one of the most drought-tolerant plants I know. Its airy shape and pastel grayish blue color makes every composition lighter and more sophisticated. It should be planted in a way to feel its pleasant, spicy scent as well.</div>
<br />
<a href="http://www.studiolum.com/hortus/kertinaplo/2012-09-25-kert/04.jpg" onblur="try {parent.deselectBloggerImageGracefully();} catch(e) {}"><img alt="" border="0" src="http://www.studiolum.com/hortus/kertinaplo/2012-09-25-kert/04c.jpg" style="display: block; margin: 0px auto 0px; text-align: center;" /></a><br />
<div style="text-align: justify;">
Behind the Perovskia, another excellent, drought- and shade-tolerant (!) Aster: <a href="http://www.esveld.nl/htmldia/a/asaasr.htm">Aster ageratoides 'Asran'</a>. (Though I must say that Aster oblongifolius tolerates drought even better.) On the following picture, the same plants in close-up.</div>
<br />
<a href="http://www.studiolum.com/hortus/kertinaplo/2012-09-25-kert/05.jpg" onblur="try {parent.deselectBloggerImageGracefully();} catch(e) {}"><img alt="" border="0" src="http://www.studiolum.com/hortus/kertinaplo/2012-09-25-kert/05c.jpg" style="display: block; margin: 0px auto 0px; text-align: center;" /></a><br />
<div style="text-align: justify;">
As they spread very aggresively, I would never plant it in good conditions, but they are excellent on hard-to-plant places, bad soil, in shade (!) and dry areas.</div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<a href="http://www.studiolum.com/hortus/kertinaplo/2012-09-25-kert/06.jpg" onblur="try {parent.deselectBloggerImageGracefully();} catch(e) {}"><img alt="" border="0" src="http://www.studiolum.com/hortus/kertinaplo/2012-09-25-kert/06c.jpg" style="display: block; margin: 0px auto 0px; text-align: center;" /></a></div>
<br />
<div style="text-align: justify;">
Finally, in the foreground, a <a href="http://www.digthedirt.com/plants/11763-perennials-heterotheca-villosa">Heterotheca villosa</a>
(also sold as Aster 'Golden Sunshine, e.g. by the <a href="http://www.mocsaryevelo.hu/modules.php?name=novenyeim&file=abcolvas&cikk=viragzo-457fa0c154103&elozo=viragzo-437fa0b154177&eloz=abc&szuro1=A">Mocsáry Perennial Nursery</a> in Budapest), together with the <a href="http://www.esveld.nl/htmldiaen/p/pavsqu.htm">Panicum virgatum 'Squaw',</a> already seen at the beginning of the bed. As it is really drought-tolerant and long-blooming, it can brilliantly associated with grasses and other drought-tolerant perennials. It would be worth to plant it more often.<br />
<br />

In contrast to the other Artemisiae, this kind likes the cool and humid climate. It requires a good supply of water, but it does not need a constantly wet soil, like, say, a Ligularia. </div>

<a href="http://www.studiolum.com/hortus/kertinaplo/2012-07-01-kert/01.jpg" onblur="try {parent.deselectBloggerImageGracefully();} catch(e) {}"><img alt="" border="0" src="http://www.studiolum.com/hortus/kertinaplo/2012-07-01-kert/01c.jpg" style="display: block; margin: 0px auto 0px; text-align: center;" /></a><br />
With the help of the cherry-red lily <a href="http://agardendiary.blogspot.com/2012/06/good-morning-with-lilies.html">in the previous post</a> and the white Persicaria polymorpha, I can demonstrate not only the mass application of one element, but also the composition technique by virtue of which one or two colors – in our case, purple and white – appear in different forms.<br />
<br />
<a href="http://www.studiolum.com/hortus/kertinaplo/2012-07-01-kert/02.jpg" onblur="try {parent.deselectBloggerImageGracefully();} catch(e) {}"><img alt="" border="0" src="http://www.studiolum.com/hortus/kertinaplo/2012-07-01-kert/02c.jpg" style="display: block; margin: 0px auto 0px; text-align: center;" /></a><br />
If you want some purple in the garden, first of all you should choose a variety of purple leaves. We have this Physocarpus opulifolius 'Atropurpureus' shrub in the middle of the large upper perennial bed, which offers a great purple surface from spring till autumn.<br />
<br />
<a href="http://www.studiolum.com/hortus/kertinaplo/2012-07-01-kert/03.jpg" onblur="try {parent.deselectBloggerImageGracefully();} catch(e) {}"><img alt="" border="0" src="http://www.studiolum.com/hortus/kertinaplo/2012-07-01-kert/03c.jpg" style="display: block; margin: 0px auto 0px; text-align: center;" /></a><br />
From the perennials, purple-leaved Heuchera 'Palace Purple' (above) and Eupatorium rugosum 'Chocolate' both work well at us. I apply them in repeated patches in the garden.<br />
<br />
<a href="http://www.studiolum.com/hortus/kertinaplo/2012-07-01-kert/04.jpg" onblur="try {parent.deselectBloggerImageGracefully();} catch(e) {}"><img alt="" border="0" src="http://www.studiolum.com/hortus/kertinaplo/2012-07-01-kert/04c.jpg" style="display: block; margin: 0px auto; text-align: center;" /></a><br />
The purple leaves of Eupatorium strengthen the purple hue of the flower of Persicaria amplexicaulis 'Firetail', planted next to it. The same flower would appear rather red when planted next to a yellow one.<br />
<br />
<img alt="" border="0" src="http://www.studiolum.com/hortus/kertinaplo/2012-07-01-kert/05c.jpg" style="display: block; margin: 0px auto 0px; text-align: center;" />
<br />
The white flower of Lilium regale also has purple hues, which connect the purple and white elements.<br />
<br />
<a href="http://www.studiolum.com/hortus/kertinaplo/2012-07-01-kert/06.jpg" onblur="try {parent.deselectBloggerImageGracefully();} catch(e) {}"><img alt="" border="0" src="http://www.studiolum.com/hortus/kertinaplo/2012-07-01-kert/06c.jpg" style="display: block; margin: 0px auto 0px; text-align: center;" /></a>
<br />
The flower of Rosa 'Ballerina' and the pimp in the lower left corner play a similar function. Between them various shades of purple are repeated (the two lilies, Persicaria, and the red rose in the upper corner).<br />
<br />
<a href="http://www.studiolum.com/hortus/kertinaplo/2012-07-01-kert/07.jpg" onblur="try {parent.deselectBloggerImageGracefully();} catch(e) {}"><img alt="" border="0" src="http://www.studiolum.com/hortus/kertinaplo/2012-07-01-kert/07c.jpg" style="display: block; margin: 0px auto 0px; text-align: center;" /></a>
<br />
It is always very effective if similar colors appear in opposite forms, as in the thin flower of Persicaria and the wide one of Hemerocallis.<br />
<br />
<a href="http://www.studiolum.com/hortus/kertinaplo/2012-07-01-kert/09.jpg" onblur="try {parent.deselectBloggerImageGracefully();} catch(e) {}"><img alt="" border="0" src="http://www.studiolum.com/hortus/kertinaplo/2012-07-01-kert/09c.jpg" style="display: block; margin: 0px auto 0px; text-align: center;" /></a><br />
The Hemerocallis in the picture show various shades of purple with small formal and color differences, and these give a feeling of abundance.<br />
<br />
<a href="http://www.studiolum.com/hortus/kertinaplo/2012-07-01-kert/08.jpg" onblur="try {parent.deselectBloggerImageGracefully();} catch(e) {}"><img alt="" border="0" src="http://www.studiolum.com/hortus/kertinaplo/2012-07-01-kert/08c.jpg" style="display: block; margin: 0px auto 0px; text-align: center;" /></a><br />
<a href="http://www.studiolum.com/hortus/kertinaplo/2012-07-01-kert/10.jpg" onblur="try {parent.deselectBloggerImageGracefully();} catch(e) {}"><img alt="" border="0" src="http://www.studiolum.com/hortus/kertinaplo/2012-07-01-kert/10c.jpg" style="display: block; margin: 0px auto 0px; text-align: center;" /></a><br />
Here, purple and white is repeated in various flowers and leaves.<br />
<br />
<a href="http://www.studiolum.com/hortus/kertinaplo/2012-07-01-kert/11.jpg" onblur="try {parent.deselectBloggerImageGracefully();} catch(e) {}"><img alt="" border="0" src="http://www.studiolum.com/hortus/kertinaplo/2012-07-01-kert/11c.jpg" style="display: block; margin: 0px auto 0px; text-align: center;" /></a> <br />
Finally, let us see how one can overcome the duality of purple and white. The flower of Geranium 'Patricia' is in harmony with the lily’s purple, but it already has enough blue shades to also harmonize with the fine bluish-purple flowers of Campanula rotundifolia. And this coincidence already can invite into the composition the bluish flowers of Echinops banticus.<br />
<br />
<a href="http://www.studiolum.com/hortus/kertinaplo/2012-07-01-kert/12.jpg" onblur="try {parent.deselectBloggerImageGracefully();} catch(e) {}"><img alt="" border="0" src="http://www.studiolum.com/hortus/kertinaplo/2012-07-01-kert/12c.jpg" style="display: block; margin: 0px auto; text-align: center;" /></a><br />
The next composition follows the same technique.<br />
<br />
<a href="http://www.studiolum.com/hortus/kertinaplo/2012-07-01-kert/13.jpg" onblur="try {parent.deselectBloggerImageGracefully();} catch(e) {}"><img alt="" border="0" src="http://www.studiolum.com/hortus/kertinaplo/2012-07-01-kert/13c.jpg" style="display: block; margin: 0px auto 0px; text-align: center;" /></a><br />
Here I used the bluish hue of the lily’s purple. As the two compositions are next to each other, they strengthen each other’s effect, and thus the Echinops fits nicely into the overall picture.<br />
<br />
<a href="http://www.studiolum.com/hortus/kertinaplo/2012-07-01-kert/14.jpg" onblur="try {parent.deselectBloggerImageGracefully();} catch(e) {}"><img alt="" border="0" src="http://www.studiolum.com/hortus/kertinaplo/2012-07-01-kert/14c.jpg" style="display: block; margin: 0px auto 0px; text-align: center;" /></a><br />
And if we did it all with enough discipline, then we can even allow ourselves to smuggle into the composition an orange lily (Lilium 'African Queen'), a counterpoint to Echinops both in its color and its form, by exploiting the purple shade which is present in its flower.<br />
<br />
<a href="http://www.studiolum.com/hortus/kertinaplo/2012-07-01-kert/15.jpg" onblur="try {parent.deselectBloggerImageGracefully();} catch(e) {}"><img alt="" border="0" src="http://www.studiolum.com/hortus/kertinaplo/2012-07-01-kert/15c.jpg" style="display: block; margin: 0px auto 0px; text-align: center;" /></a></div>Unknownnoreply@blogger.com1tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1730833146696023180.post-60277056283907421682012-06-29T10:23:00.000+02:002012-11-14T05:21:05.712+01:00Good morning with lilies<div style="text-align: justify;">

<a href="http://www.studiolum.com/hortus/kertinaplo/2012-06-27-kert/01.jpg" onblur="try {parent.deselectBloggerImageGracefully();} catch(e) {}"><img alt="" border="0" src="http://www.studiolum.com/hortus/kertinaplo/2012-06-27-kert/01c.jpg" style="display: block; margin: 0px auto 0px; text-align: center;" /></a><br />
I love very much this cherry-red lily.<br />
<br />
<a href="http://www.studiolum.com/hortus/kertinaplo/2012-06-27-kert/02.jpg" onblur="try {parent.deselectBloggerImageGracefully();} catch(e) {}"><img alt="" border="0" src="http://www.studiolum.com/hortus/kertinaplo/2012-06-27-kert/02c.jpg" style="display: block; margin: 0px auto 0px; text-align: center;" /></a><br />
Unfortunately I do not know its name, because although I looked for its original package, but they simply wrote on the bag: “Lily” (I purhcased it for 1 euro some years ago). It is nothing special of a lily, but in my opinion it has a very nice hue, and, unlike the special lilies, it persists and even reproduces in our garden.<br />
<br />
<a href="http://www.studiolum.com/hortus/kertinaplo/2012-06-27-kert/03.jpg" onblur="try {parent.deselectBloggerImageGracefully();} catch(e) {}"><img alt="" border="0" src="http://www.studiolum.com/hortus/kertinaplo/2012-06-27-kert/03c.jpg" style="display: block; margin: 0px auto 0px; text-align: center;" /></a><br />
As I have liked it, from time to time I have dug it out in the autumn and propagated it. I think this is a good example that you do not absolutely have to have extremely much money and special plants for a beautiful and unique garden. It was beautiful and it liked the place, and the fact that I could propagate it and make an entire arch of lilies of it, already made it extraordinary.<br />
<br />
<a href="http://www.studiolum.com/hortus/kertinaplo/2012-06-27-kert/04.jpg" onblur="try {parent.deselectBloggerImageGracefully();} catch(e) {}"><img alt="" border="0" src="http://www.studiolum.com/hortus/kertinaplo/2012-06-27-kert/04c.jpg" style="display: block; margin: 0px auto 0px; text-align: center;" /></a><br />
So, good morning with lilies, experimental mood, and good luck to all!</div>Unknownnoreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1730833146696023180.post-32700311554815946372012-06-25T23:31:00.000+02:002012-11-14T05:22:03.486+01:00The lily season begins<div style="text-align: justify;">
<a href="http://www.studiolum.com/hortus/kertinaplo/2012-06-24-kert/01.jpg" onblur="try {parent.deselectBloggerImageGracefully();} catch(e) {}"><img alt="" border="0" src="http://www.studiolum.com/hortus/kertinaplo/2012-06-24-kert/01c.jpg" style="display: block; margin: 0px auto 0px; text-align: center;" /></a>
In this weekend the lilies began to bloom. Last fall I tried to make order between the disorderly purchased and planted lilies. I was digging, sorting and planting them for several days. Now I am impressed to see how well they are doing and that I have managed to create the claret wave line I wanted.</div>Unknownnoreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1730833146696023180.post-18851566107576665572012-06-24T15:24:00.000+02:002012-11-14T05:22:11.050+01:00Hydrangea arborescens 'White Dome'<div style="text-align: justify;">
<a href="http://www.studiolum.com/hortus/kertinaplo/2012-06-23-kert/01.jpg" onblur="try {parent.deselectBloggerImageGracefully();} catch(e) {}"><img alt="" border="0" src="http://www.studiolum.com/hortus/kertinaplo/2012-06-23-kert/01c.jpg" style="display: block; margin: 0px auto 0px; text-align: center;" /></a><br />
It seems to me that it has grown a lot over the last three years (<a href="http://agardendiary.blogspot.hu/2010/03/plants-for-deep-shade-hydrangea.html">here you can see its photos of 2009</a>). And I have to put myself right in relation of the post of 2010: in contrast to general belief, it grows much more than one and half meter. Even with strong pruning, this shrub is higher than two meters.<br />
<br />
<a href="http://www.studiolum.com/hortus/kertinaplo/2012-06-23-kert/02.jpg" onblur="try {parent.deselectBloggerImageGracefully();} catch(e) {}"><img alt="" border="0" src="http://www.studiolum.com/hortus/kertinaplo/2012-06-23-kert/02c.jpg" style="display: block; margin: 0px auto 0px; text-align: center;" /></a><br />
Undoubtedly there are more attractive hydrangeas than this, but this shrub is growing in an almost complete shade and with relatively little watering. In such circumstances I am very satisfied with it. I also have to add to the post of 2010 that Hydrangea arborescens, once stabilized, is not water intensive.<br />
<br />
<a href="http://www.studiolum.com/hortus/kertinaplo/2012-06-23-kert/03.jpg" onblur="try {parent.deselectBloggerImageGracefully();} catch(e) {}"><img alt="" border="0" src="http://www.studiolum.com/hortus/kertinaplo/2012-06-23-kert/03c.jpg" style="display: block; margin: 0px auto 0px; text-align: center;" /></a><br />
<br />
And it seems they are not demanding from other points of view either. This White Dome grows on a good ground, but what I propagated from it is also nice on relatively poor soil, although it remains smaller. The only problem with it is that you cannot buy it at us. Hopefully some nursery, at the sight of its good qualities, will feel like producing it. In the meantime you can buy it next to Vienna, in the <a href="http://www.praskac.at/">Praskac.</a></div>Unknownnoreply@blogger.com2tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1730833146696023180.post-43178239944275737772012-06-10T23:13:00.001+02:002012-11-14T05:22:47.185+01:00The visit of the Hungarian Rose Society<div style="text-align: justify;">
Last Sunday the <a href="http://magyarrozsatarsasag.blogspot.hu/2012/06/latogatas-templom-kata-kertjeben.html">Hungarian Rose Society</a> visited our garden. After my <a href="http://kertinaplo.blogspot.hu/2012/03/rozsatarsasag.html">spring lecture</a> they told they would like to see my roses, too. We organized the visit for now, the blooming of the roses. For those rose friends who are not yet members of the <a href="http://magyarrozsatarsasag.blogspot.hu/p/bemutatkozas.html">Rose Society,</a> here I offer a virtual guide.</div>
<br />
<a href="http://www.studiolum.com/hortus/kertinaplo/2012-06-10-kert/01.jpg"><img alt="" border="0" src="http://www.studiolum.com/hortus/kertinaplo/2012-06-10-kert/01c.jpg" style="display: block; margin: 0px auto; text-align: center;" /></a><br />
<div style="text-align: justify;">
The first rose is <a href="http://agardendiary.blogspot.hu/2010/10/bonica.html">'Bonica'.</a> I think this is one of the best roses on the market today. Healthy, nice even on poor soil and in semi-shade, very cold-tolerant (Z4), blooming from early June until the first frosts. It is also available in Hungary, the <a href="http://altekfa.hu/">Nursery of Alsótekeres</a> sells it for a few euros. I would like to specifically draw the attention of gardening shops to order from it, so that this excellent rose would spread at us as well.</div>
<br />
<img alt="" border="0" src="http://www.studiolum.com/hortus/kertinaplo/2012-06-10-kert/02c.jpg" style="display: block; margin: 0px auto 0px; text-align: center;" /><br />
<div style="text-align: justify;">
This is how the big rose garden looks from afar. I usually see this view, from the place where I used to have tea in the morning.</div>
<br />
<a href="http://www.studiolum.com/hortus/kertinaplo/2012-06-10-kert/03.jpg"><img alt="" border="0" src="http://www.studiolum.com/hortus/kertinaplo/2012-06-10-kert/03c.jpg" style="display: block; margin: 0px auto 0px; text-align: center;" /></a><br />
<div style="text-align: justify;">
English roses in semi-shade. To the left: 'Sharifa Asma', <a href="http://agardendiary.blogspot.hu/2008/01/heather-austin.html">'Heather Austin'</a> and 'The Dark Lady'; to the right, one of my favorites, <a href="http://agardendiary.blogspot.hu/2011/01/cottage-rose.html">'Cottage Rose'</a> (which, according to <a href="http://www.helpmefind.com/rose/l.php?l=2.1340">Help Me Find,</a> is not just my favorite).</div>
<br />
<a href="http://www.studiolum.com/hortus/kertinaplo/2012-06-10-kert/04.jpg"><img alt="" border="0" src="http://www.studiolum.com/hortus/kertinaplo/2012-06-10-kert/04c.jpg" style="display: block; margin: 0px auto 0px; text-align: center;" /></a><br />
<div style="text-align: justify;">
To the left, a Canadian rose, 'Martin Frobisher', really shade and cold-tolerant, with repeated blooming, the only problem is that in the rain its flowers turn brown. The high pink one next to it is 'Delicata', one of the earliest blooming roses. They usually tell it one or one and half meter high, but here it is one and half with the strongest pruning, without that it would be probably at least two meters. Next to it, 'A Shropshire Lad' and 'Lucetta' which, unfortunately, blossom only twice a year here in semi-shade.</div>
<br />
<a href="http://www.studiolum.com/hortus/kertinaplo/2012-06-10-kert/05.jpg"><img alt="" border="0" src="http://www.studiolum.com/hortus/kertinaplo/2012-06-10-kert/05c.jpg" style="display: block; margin: 0px auto 0px; text-align: center;" /></a><br />
<div style="text-align: justify;">
The garden path from the house to the garden leads through the roses. Our first roses in the garden were planted in the right-side part of the picture: these were <a href="http://agardendiary.blogspot.hu/2007/03/roses.html">brought from England back in 1997.</a></div>
<br />
<a href="http://www.studiolum.com/hortus/kertinaplo/2012-06-10-kert/06.jpg"><img alt="" border="0" src="http://www.studiolum.com/hortus/kertinaplo/2012-06-10-kert/06c.jpg" style="display: block; margin: 0px auto 0px; text-align: center;" /></a><br />
Another favorite of mine, <a href="http://agardendiary.blogspot.hu/2008/01/john-clare.html">'John Clare'.</a> The cream-colored one behind it is <a href="http://agardendiary.blogspot.hu/2007/04/comtes-des-champagne.html">'Comtes des Champagne',</a> while the back one the beautiful 'Jubilee Celebration'.<br />
<br />
<a href="http://www.studiolum.com/hortus/kertinaplo/2012-06-10-kert/07.jpg"><img alt="" border="0" src="http://www.studiolum.com/hortus/kertinaplo/2012-06-10-kert/07c.jpg" style="display: block; margin: 0px auto 0px; text-align: center;" /></a><br />
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<a href="http://kertinaplo.blogspot.com/2011/01/cottage-rose.html"></a><a href="http://agardendiary.blogspot.hu/2011/01/cottage-rose.html">'Cottage Rose'</a> from the other side, behind it a 'Zaiga', an excellent Latvian, and 'William Baffin', a good Canadian rose. You should pay attention to these <a href="http://www.helpmefind.com/gardening/l.php?l=7.8145&tab=21">Latvian Rugosas</a> and <a href="http://www.helpmefind.com/gardening/l.php?l=7.6032&tab=21">Canadian roses,</a> they are really beautiful and cold-resistant.</div>
<br />
<a href="http://www.studiolum.com/hortus/kertinaplo/2012-06-10-kert/08.jpg"><img alt="" border="0" src="http://www.studiolum.com/hortus/kertinaplo/2012-06-10-kert/08c.jpg" style="display: block; margin: 0px auto 0px; text-align: center;" /></a>
<br />
<div style="text-align: justify;">
Finally, once more 'Sharifa Asma', 'Heather Austin' and 'Dark Lady', with Noble Anthony behind them. The row is closed in the spice garden by a Delphinium, Karl Foester’s excellent 'Finstneraarhorn'. (After taking the photos, I cut it back, and now it is getting dry in the bathroom so that in the autumn it could be a main character of the large dry autumn bouquet.)</div>Unknownnoreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1730833146696023180.post-43342207988042275842012-05-27T20:55:00.000+02:002012-11-14T05:23:07.143+01:00Pentecost<a href="http://www.studiolum.com/hortus/kertinaplo/2012-05-27-kert/01.jpg"><img alt="" border="0" src="http://www.studiolum.com/hortus/kertinaplo/2012-05-27-kert/01c.jpg" style="display: block; margin: 0px auto 0px; text-align: center;" /></a><br />

I have just converted this section so that it requires much less watering. While I was looking for help, I found a very good page on the internet. On the Washington State University’s site Professor <a href="http://public.wsu.edu/%7Elohr/">Virginia I. Lohr</a> and Caroline Mon Perason made an excellent collection on drought-tolerant plants. As their conditions are very similar to ours, their experiences can be particularly well used at us.</div>

Today it is the feast of my patron saint, <a href="http://www.newadvent.org/cathen/03447a.htm">St. Catherine of Siena.</a> I greet her with these photos. And as her heavenly birthday is celebrated not only here, but over there as well, it is particularly worth to ask today for her intercession in our issues and troubles.</div>Unknownnoreply@blogger.com0
